You'll never know

Boston Common bandstand at night, Christmas lights, fog billowing around from rapid snowmelt w/ eerie tree & people shadows.

You don't understand:
it didn't used to - it wasn't that long ago - it doesn't feel like that long ago! -
it was so much colder;
this rain, it would have been snow.
And the ground, the ground is turning to mush. It used to be frozen solid all winter. You'd never see this.

You don't understand - how would you? -
the oceans were so much fuller.
You'll never know what it was like then,
what tidepools were like,
what it was like to stand in the ocean and see life everywhere.
It happened so fast - how did it happen so fast? - it really wasn't that long ago.

You don't understand:
they broke this while I was here, while I was sitting right here, not knowing that they were doing it until it was done.

You don't understand.
It wasn't that long ago.
You'll never know.
I'm so sorry you'll never know.
